As soon as I saw a symbol of ‘eye' I turned right and looked to the row of chairs which looked as if it leads to the cabin /room of the doctor but yesterday it was proved that it is nothing more then an illusion. Yea! Yesterday I waited for two hours at the queue to meet the doctor but I couldn't so today determine to see a doctor I arrived very early there.  I sat down on the front chair but there was nothing except the door lock and me. Oh! How I can forget just few inches front to me there was constant water droplets falling from the ceiling tip! Tap! Tip! tap!. I could guess that just above me there was a bathroom I thought I was lucky for a reason that ceiling was not leaking right above my head. But still undisturbed by the leaking ceiling I waited for the doctor. I had some problem in my left eye and this problem was troubling me for three weeks. Desperate to see a doctor I waited like a stone. Slowly I started to get company, few women came and they sat beside my chair but no one came to unlock the door. I looked at my watch and discovered the fact that it's been 3 hours that I have waited for the doctor but still haven't got any sign of him. Now there were a considerable number of people behind me waiting for the doctor. So I had a grin on my face as I was first on the line another hour passed but still no clue about the doctor. I made my mind to ask a staff about the arrival of doctor. I had a very bad impression about the staff of the hospital as a child accompanied by my mother I came to the hospital every request of my mother to the staff used to transform into silence with the harsh reply of the staff. Finally I stood up from my chair and dragged my body towards the one elderly looking staff of eye department I asked here in my native language ‘when our respected doctor will be arriving at the hospital' and she answered ‘Oh my god you don't know that eye doctors are on strike today' I was shocked not because doctors were on strike I was surprised due to her soft and polite reply. Nowadays in Kathmandu strike has became the part of the human life I didn't asked why? As sometime the death of your dog can be the enough reason   for the strike in the Nepal so I took no trouble of using the useless word "why?" She further suggested me to go on the ticket counter and ask the money back that you have paid to see the doctor. At ticket counter of the hospital no one said that doctor were on the strike it was very funny the hospital administrative staff were very unaware of the strike of the hospital. Now I wanted my money back but when I reached counter I saw a long line of people which off course would take me another one hour in reaching to the counter so I thought my money will be like donation to plaster the leaking ceiling.
I walked out of the hospital gate with a grin on my face because I was among the fortunate ones who have access to the hospital irrespective whether I meet a doctor or not. There are so many people in my country who have no idea what the hospital means.
This experience makes me realize that there are so many reasons within us which can make us happy and similarly there are so many reasons to be sad within us it depends what we choose to be. We are sad because we choose to be sad and we are happy because we have the ability to see the silver lining even in the dark clouds.
